Under the login prompt for my name, is says “Not listed?”.
mike@fedora:~$ id
uid=1000(mike) gid=1000(mike) groups=1000(mike),10(wheel) context=unconfined_u:unconfined_r:unconfined_t:s0-s0:c0.c1023
If this is a clue, how can I fix this?

The ID looks normal. What Desktop Manager are you using?
Edit: Oh, I think I see what it is. “Not listed?” is a question, not a statement. It is possible to mark accounts as “system” accounts and then GDM will not list them. Instead, you have to select “Not listed?” and then you will get a text box into which you can type the username.
There is nothing wrong with your account.
It’s a new install of Fedora Destop 41, so the Desktop is GNOME.
I’m a macOS and raspberryOS user, so Fedora is new for me, but this behaviour makes me think there is something wrong with my account.
There is nothing wrong. If you want to try to notify the GNOME team that you think the design is confusing, you can click the pencil () icon at the top of this thread and add their team tag.
