Updates go wrong - Part 2

HI,

Again I get an error message when I open Discover to update my Kinoite system. This time it’s this error message:

rpm-ostree transaction failed with:
error: Loading sack: Updating rpm-md repo 'rpmfusion-free-updates': cannot update repo 'rpmfusion-free-updates': Yum repo downloading error: Downloading error(s): repodata/93898a8f73a68dc1899c0e8b5b9448be79abc7647f5728cd97bc040e78f6adfa-primary.xml.gz - Cannot download, all mirrors were already tried without success; Last error: Status code: 404 for http://ftp.nluug.nl/os/Linux/distr/rpmfusion/free/fedora/updates/40/x86_64/repodata/93898a8f73a68dc1899c0e8b5b9448be79abc7647f5728cd97bc040e78f6adfa-primary.xml.gz (IP: 2001:67c:6ec:221:145:220:21:40)

Is this a message more people have seen today and does it just mean that the repo ( rpmfusion-free-updates) can’t be downloaded, or is something more going on?

EDIT at 23:26 on June 14:

I now have the following message:

rpm-ostree transaction failed with:
error: Loading sack: Updating rpm-md repo 'rpmfusion-nonfree-updates': cannot update repo 'rpmfusion-nonfree-updates': Yum repo downloading error: Downloading error(s): repodata/58b49ebd585a9cb53fdb6d4114d1741475d243e61ea6f0c10120be4a4f364890-primary.xml.gz - Cannot download, all mirrors were already tried without success; Last error: Status code: 404 for http://ftp.nluug.nl/os/Linux/distr/rpmfusion/nonfree/fedora/updates/40/x86_64/repodata/58b49ebd585a9cb53fdb6d4114d1741475d243e61ea6f0c10120be4a4f364890-primary.xml.gz (IP: 2001:67c:6ec:221:145:220:21:40)

What is going on here?

That looks like a broken mirror to me. You can try rpm-ostree cleanup -m and hopefully it will use a different one.

You may want to contact the RPM Fusion people to see if they can get it fixed and/or pull it from the rotation.

I used the code after having looked for updates which resulted in the same error messages. After using the code you mentioned I can update the system without an error message. So for now it works, hope it will stay that way.
Thank you very much for your help.

It looks the situation is not solved. I just got this:

rpm-ostree transaction failed with:
error: Loading sack: Updating rpm-md repo 'rpmfusion-free-updates': cannot update repo 'rpmfusion-free-updates': Yum repo downloading error: Downloading error(s): repodata/93898a8f73a68dc1899c0e8b5b9448be79abc7647f5728cd97bc040e78f6adfa-primary.xml.gz - Cannot download, all mirrors were already tried without success; Last error: Status code: 404 for http://ftp.nluug.nl/os/Linux/distr/rpmfusion/free/fedora/updates/40/x86_64/repodata/93898a8f73a68dc1899c0e8b5b9448be79abc7647f5728cd97bc040e78f6adfa-primary.xml.gz (IP: 2001:67c:6ec:221:145:220:21:40)

When I open website

FTP archive directory /os/Linux/distr/rpmfusion/free/fedora/updates/40/x86_64/repodata/

I see totally names than which are mentioned in the error message.

I did rpm-ostree cleanup -m again but that didn’t help this time.

What do I need to do to solve this, who can help me?
Thanks.

In the bugreport on
https://bugzilla.rpmfusion.org/show_bug.cgi?id=6968 it is asked to remove http://ftp/nluug.nl from mirrormanager. So I guess (hope) it will be okay soon.

The error message made me think about what is really going on. It says that the wanted file on the mirror in The Netherlands can’t be found, but it also says that all other mirrors were tried as well. If just one of the others would have the file then why isn’t that used? Just removing the Dutch mirror from the list will probably still not make it work.
Where is the list with mirrors located, is it something I have here in my computer or is it stored remotely?

Let’s see what happens tomorrow.

You get the mirror list from

https://mirrors.rpmfusion.org/metalink?repo=free-fedora-updates-released-40&arch=x86_64
https://mirrors.rpmfusion.org/metalink?repo=free-fedora-40&arch=x86_64

That is the expanded version of

metalink=https://mirrors.rpmfusion.org/metalink?repo=free-fedora-updates-released-$releasever&arch=$basearch

as found in the .repo files in /etc/yum.repos.d.

You also have a local cached copy at ls /var/cache/dnf/*/metalink.xml.
