Update isussues on Fedora 42 Cinnamon

Hello,

I installed Fedora 42 Cinnamon in my PC, and while I am having trouble with boot times (another thread) I wanted to make a dedicated thread to the installation and update issues I have encountered.

First things first, during install I got an error message to pop up which said that SELinux prevented systemd-coredump from mounton. I am mentioning this in case it’s relevant.

But now to the update issue. After a fresh install, the first thing I do is of course to update. I go into the Software Manager and click “download”. It downloads everything and I am prompted to restart, so I click the restart button. The first time it just logs me out. Okay so I log back in, click “Download” again, wait, am prompted to restart, and now it restarts. But it doesn’t apply the updates. So I download them again, am prompted to restart, I click restart and again it doesn’t apply any updates. This went on for a while until at one point, I don’t know why or how it did apply the updates. But it took multiple attempts and multiple restarts.

Seems like a bug, right?

Use the SSO link in the top right menu.

I always recommend updating from the command line, as we see many problems with various GUI software updaters.

What is an SSO link?

Single Sign On
So you can use your Fedora Account to access Bugzilla

Do an update from command line running the following command and report back

sudo dnf update

Try running update in cli.

It’s probably an inhibitor issue fixed recently.
