TV tuner driver

Both VLC (VideoLan) and Kodi are streaming apps, they present multimedia to the user in a familiar format. The Digital TV Card is meant to convert broadcast signals, such as from Satellite or OTA digital signals to a format to view them by the user, much like a set top box does. Neither VLC nor Kodi care where they get their streams, via ethernet (internet) is normal for them. Both would likely look for devices in the traditional location /dev. I don’t currently have a DTV card in my setup, but I do have one around. As a consequence I cannot tell what name such a card might have, but it will be there in /dev if your system has recognized it. This is a page showing someones efforts to setup Fedora with a DVB or DTV card. DavidTimms/DVB

All right I was lookking /dev/dvb/adapter0 where VLC is pointing to. And there was nothing but /lib/modules/5.6.0-0.rc7.git1.1.fc33.x86_64/kernel/drivers/media is frontends and drivers. And this is where makefile wil create one as in the instructions there is installation line sudo rm -rf /lib/modules/uname -r/kernel/drivers/media/ what delete previous driver as it makes trouble as I understand in the forum. So what type of file need to look from media folder, and how to list in preferences in VLC as it is not allowed to directly modified in the capture media menu in VLC. In fact this kernel modules and dirvers and so on is correct place for such adrivers as I read from Fedora documentation. Is there something did not understand, then sure need to set up frequency, symbol rate and modulation, but this is clear to me. What about to symbolic link. Make empty file and then symlink to point media folder but what file to look at?

In menu folder I have this ones so is it this dvb-frontends? And how I can point in VLC where it need to look at as in the capture device menu it is not allowed to change direction. Is it on some preferences tab inside VLC?

cec dvb-core firewire mc pci radio spi usb
common dvb-frontends i2c mmc platform rc tuners v4l2-core

And also like to say that HW is working as I do use TV card but unfortunatly in windows in trible boot system where I do want to get rid of it. How I can make virtual link. /dev/dvb/adapter0 folder and then virtual link to point correct direction. I was doing it several times when there was time that Flash Player need to install manually and then point browser where to find correct propriety player. I am so happy that this time pass away. Does any remember how this was?

I have some progress. I have card and driver installed, and also Kodi running. According Kodi. I do need tuner, backend software and add-on for the backend to able to use PVR. However what do I have now? I thouhg to have backend and tuner and Kodi and missing Add-on. When I browsing Add-ons they are not ready to install. What I do not understand here. And what PVR stand for?

Hello @juhafinlandvoaa,
How are things? I see your progressing along with the TVTuner card install.

PVR stands for Personal Video Recorder, so basically they used to be a consumer device with a standard PC HDD inside to record your shows for time shifting programs, which STB (set top boxes) adopted in their design for things like cable TV and satellite TV.

Your system is definitely recognizing the device as per the output of lspci.

In Kodi, you first have to enable third party addons or addons from unknown or untrustworthy sources. This is in settings very likely. If I remember kodi, I think the setting menu had different levels of access up to expert. You would have to ask at the appropriate kodi forum for details as I don’t use it and haven’t for some time.
good luck!

Hi Jack, hope things are good there despite news we have it from there. I finish yesterday Nixon story and before that was looking Kennedy document and also have been looking documents about the great regression and history of civil rights. I try to understand what is going on there. Very difficult to understand some issues from here. You have good advices. There is option in Kodi where untrusty software can be installed. I need to study this around Kodi forum. I am using TV card but in Windows. Kodi have some nice features. Let see if it will be mainstream. It seems to be developing story to be entertainment centre.

I live in Canada, and it is somewhat different here as regards to protesting, it rarely gets violent. The unfortunate thing is sometimes I find people are losing the art of communication, and I mean that at all levels. For me when I think of the systemic barriers in place in our society, I think of them as inequity barriers. In other words they are more barriers to keeping the poor, poor, and the wealthy, wealthy. The conflation of that very real and already studied barrier, with racism is doing both injustice and robbing efforts to resolve either by taking the conversation into basically an unsolvable place. There is bigotry and prejudice and misogyny, I would never deny that, but the system generally does not have barriers that discriminate on anything other than financial status. The fact that a lot of the marginalized in society also are poor tends lead to the mixing of the ideas. What some who haven’t looked at the colonization of North America, fail to connect is that the system we have here was adopted from our colonial past, and the empire. This inheritance has brought some of the structural baggage from the colonial administration into our institutions. So, the point with all this is that when Irish immigrants, or Italian immigrants, or Polish immigrants, or Scottish immigrants, or Ukrainian immigrants came here en masse they suffered pretty much the same fate as the marginalized of today. This seems to have been lost somewhere along the way, maybe in the general rush to try and reconcile what is perceived as a great wrong, more than likely its just to get votes which is a shame of our times. As for my neighbours to the south, they took a path much different than Canada to their independence and this is indelibly marked on their society even today. But I would say the civil war was much less about slavery than it was about power and control, just as an after the fact observer.

All right. I have been play in around Kodi. I found out that I need MythTV backend to be installed. Then I have frontend for Kodi installed and it will work then. Kodi works well over internet. I was watching France TV, FOX tv. Also Iranian TV. But there is only football. They watch football in middle-east? So how do I install MythTV in Silverbox, that is the myth for me? I have not find any DVB-C ot DVB-T from software catalogue. No, need to continue look up. I already start to dream to set up monitor setup in living room and transform that to mediacenter.

All right. I have time now to start again this project. Is there PVR client what work on Kodi. I have not find any. Also can some find instruction to VCR how to set up TV card. I do not have acsess to MRL. Is it firewal setting? Where to start this issue?

Finally Kodi start o work. I just try it for long time and bam it opens. I currently watch movies in Kodi. It gives just days ago black screen and manipulating Caps lock and Alt give snapshot from screen I was sure that in weeks it will works. Kodi is ultimate Entertainment application and now I need only have to have PVR for it to ad it my man cave and multimedia canter.
