Have a look on https://linux-hardware.org/ for your laptop model.
Often if a laptop’s hardware is not working it is because there is not a driver in the linux kernel. Someone has to add that driver.
Assuming the track pad is a USB device, if you can find the device IDs from lsusb -v that will help with tracking down a possible driver.
