I have the same issue sometimes, what helps is to press CTRL+ALT+F2/F1 with some patience… my GFX is amdgpu (Vega64).

you just should wait after pressing a key :grin:

@jocantaro Is there anything in journalctl that would give a clue? I’ve had drivers for wifi cards that wouldn’t wake up and needed to be blacklisted.

sorry for the delay.
this machine doesn’t have a wifi card, it’s connected by cable and the journalctl shows large gaps of missing info but no errors.
i just noticed that it’s rebooting, and auto logging in, at random while idle.

it freezes and won’t take any keystrokes. my first option was to try to access one of the other run levels but i end up having to power it down.

@jocantaro No worries! Did you have a chance to take a look at the journalctl entries just before it locked up?

You could also enable SSH to see you could remotely shell into the machine to investigate why the interface is locked up.
