Standalone CLI version only

Is it possible to just have Linux on my m2 mac mini? without dual boot or running on top of the OS, sorry I am very new to this project, and very interested in installing it.

I am not interested in installing the gui portion of it, since I will just use it as a home server.

Wait a little bit

The container tool is designed to work with macOS 26 “Tahoe,” which is currently in developer beta

I think this has the potential to replace complete Homebrew brew install, I’m eagerly awaiting this container feature.

Yes.

On Linux, the GUI actually sits on top of the CLI, so your Mac mini can go full headless after setting up SSH for remote logins.

For a server, I always start with the “minimal” option to reduce the footprint, then install additional packages as needed.

Announcement for Fedora 42 back in April: https://fedoramagazine.org/fedora-asahi-remix-42-is-now-available/

Officialy, Asahi instructs users for installing Fedora Asahi from within macOS. That will result in dual booting. It is also not recommended to later uninstall macOS, see the FAQ.
