SSD not shown on BIOS

Hello everyone,

Please keep in mind that English is not my first language, so I apologize for any errors.

I recently bought an Asus Vivobook 15 laptop (M1502YA model) with an AMD Ryzen 7 5825U. It came with a pre-installed Linux distro called KeepOS (I think it’s only available here in Brazil to cut costs). I wanted to install Fedora Workstation 42, so I went through the normal installation process and chose to erase the entire disk (including the previous KeepOS).

After the installation, I booted into Fedora and started the basic configuration. Suddenly, my laptop froze. I turned it off by holding down the power button. When I turned it back on, it booted directly into the BIOS. My SSD no longer shows up in the storage information or in the boot devices list.

I have confirmed that AHCI is selected and that both Secure Boot and Fast Boot options are disabled.

I’m very worried as this laptop is brand new, I’ve only had it for two days and I need it for college. I would be grateful if anyone here could help me.

Thanks for reading.

Hi,

Nothing in ‘storage’ usially means a hardware issue.

Since it’s brand new, I’d return it for warranty.

Or you could try to reset the BIOS to default settings and update the BIOS, and if it’s not enough, open the laptop, remove the SSD, test it in another computer if you have access to one (optional but highly recomended), reinstall (reseat the SSD).

An USB to M.2 adapter is a nice tool to have for testing suspicious SSDs. Some support both SATA and nvme mode.
