[SOLVED?] Sound Broken in Chrome, Fedora 40 + Version 134.0.6998.165

Suddenly today, no sound in Chrome. Yes I have tried:

  • Removing and installing Chrome
  • dnf upgrade
  • rm -r .config/google.com
  • Reset Chrome settings
  • Tried Version 136.0.7084.0 (Official Build) canary

Weirdly, google voice works in the Chrome browser, but nothing else.

All other apps that use sound work, including Firefox.

Anybody else seeing this? Does this have something to do with our Android TV box showing up in my menu bar as of a couple weeks ago? {That seems to allow me to bounce my wife off the TV show she is watching downstairs from my Chrome browser, which is f***ed.)

[For some reason the google-chrome repo now aliases to google-chrome-canary and not google-chrome-stable.]

I got sound to work for just a few seconds by going to the “Applications” tab in the KDE sound control widget - for some reason Google Chrome was muted. This was a Linux/KDE thing - permissions were all good in Chrome and all other sound-playing apps worked, including Firefox.

It wasn’t the Android TV box: I blocked its IP address with iptables and no longer see the device in the cast controls.

For some reason, I am banned from posting about this issue in the Google Chrome google group.
