I read some threads and recommendations about installing Solaar. I have a Logitech MX Master 2s, and also a Lenovo wireless keyboard which (research suggests) will also connect via a Logitech Unifying Receiver.
I have TWO logitech unifying receivers plugged into USB, and an MX Master 2s connected (via standard gnome bluetooth settings, working fine via bluetooth, albeit with not customisation available).
I installed Solaar and have opened and closed it many times but i just get an empty window with no âdevicesâ showing as available. What am I missing?!
Thanks.
I did have the flathub flatpak installed and wondered if it may be a permissions/app isolation thing. So I uninstalled and installed the RPM version (both from software app), no change. No devices. I actually have TWO âunifying receiversâ connected to USB, and neither show up.
I will try a reboot and test again. thanks
Thanks both of you. Turns out the reboot was needed! It came up after that and I could pair my MX Master 2s mouse (which i love).
SOOOO disappointed though. I bought a Lenovo KBRF5C71 âProfessional Ultraslim Wireless Keyboardâ on ebay for a tenner. Was told it would work via USB as it had no dongle. BS - doesnât work. SO gutted, as i have never touched such a gorgeous and high quality keyboard. I really am gutted, canât find a single keyboard I like half as much.
Actually, whilst it was useful to work it out, I now realise I get no more functionality out of Solaar than I do with plain old vanilla bluetooth! The only difference I can see is Solaar reads and provides the battery level on my MX Master 2S, which I dont need as when it gets low it flashes at me anyway!
With Logi Options on Mac I could set up custom actions which was very useful and I hoped to do the same (for example hold down thumb button and slide mouse left and right to move between workspaces). Caânt do anything like that, so I have uninstalled for now, but at least I know how to use it in future if needed!
thanks again everyone
I used bluetooth keyboards for years. If your laptop/desktop device does not have a built-in bluetooth receiver, you could do what I did - buy a USB bluetooth receiver (I had one from ASUS). But I eventually decided to revert to a wired keyboard. There were a few edge cases (e.g. booting into bios on ASUS motherboards) and sometimes in early OS boot where a wireless keyboard was not available.
Thanks. This isnât bluetooth, itâs wireless 2.4ghz (and encrypted apparently, hence why it wonât work!)
I will look at those keyboards though thanks
One of the advantages of the logitech unifying receiver is that is does not depend upon bluetooth but has its own pairing in the wifi bands. Bluetooth depends upon loading a driver for the chipset and most bios is unable to do that before the OS is loaded so booting is probmeatic with a bluetooth keyboard/mouse while the logitech way just works. Logitech does not depend upon either the bios nor the OS.
