I need to upgrade my home server to a silent server, I was thinking a mac mini M1 running Asahi with 3 external nvme disks (4tb x 3).
I will use it as a plex server, file server and as a remote desktop.
Does Asahi have fan control or is the m1 silent enough? Any experience?

I’ve never heard the fan on a Mac Mini sitting in a normal room, even a bedroom, even sitting next to it. It’s that quiet.
(There is technically fan control, but it’s hidden behind a kernel module parameter and we don’t recommend enabling it, because the default firmware fan control is appropriate for the vast majority of cases and it could be dangerous to override.)
