After recent update that included kernel 6.8.8-100.fc38.x86_64 and a lot of x11 updates my screen brightness changed to a much darker brightness. I can barely make out the details especially in KDE with the task bar at the bottom. I have tried changing from x11 to wayland and from KDE Plasma to Gnome with no differences in the screen brightness. I also brought the system up on previous kernel with no satisfaction.
My system is consist of ASUS ROG STRIX X570-E motherboard, AMD RYzen 9 3950X, 32 GiB Memory, NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1650 graphics. The Monitor is a Samsung 32J690UQN.
i’ve been running Fedora X11 Gnome and KDE Plasma for several years on this configuration and never had a problem with being able to see the monitor.
I know I’m getting old but I have other system running and no problem reading their monitors.
It seems I have found the answer. On the login in screen (I believe it is a gnome screen) there is an icon (looks like a person) that now gives options for I believe it was labelled “High Contrast”; that when turned on brings my screen back to a readable brightness level. Don’t know if this is new but I haven’t had the problem until yesterday. I don’t use Gnome or Wayland so I don’t normally look there. Why it affects KDE Plasma I don’t know. Originally I installed Fedora Workstation on Fedora 32 or 33 on this newly built system and later added KDE desktop. Don’t know how I will do when Wayland is the only option. Way too much work every time I reboot to have to set up my virtual desktops and apps where I know they will be.
