Rocking and rolling: 2024-04-16 CommOps meeting summary

The Community Operations (CommOps) team held our first meeting since several years on Tuesday, 16 April. We had approximately 16-18 people participate across the course of the meeting. Thanks everyone for turning up!

We had brief introductions where everyone shared a bit about themselves, their Fedora history, and what was so interesting to them about CommOps. After intros, @rwright and I helped set the context:

  1. An overview of the new CommOps structure in 2024 (see the slide deck we presented)
  2. Introduced the “Home” repository on GitLab, which is our primary workspace as a team. We will track to-dos and ongoing work via Issues on this repo.
    • We are using labels and milestones as tools to help us plan and track work.
  3. @rwright introduced the first-time-setup repo as a place for folks to poke around more with Fedora data sources and see what is possible. If you want to help us on the data science & analytics side, start poking into this and see how far you can get.
  4. I mentioned that planning for the F40 Release Party in May is kicking off soon. There are four areas that we need help with:
    • Content and promotion
    • Design
    • Event production
    • Speaker coordination

Our next meeting will be on 2024-04-30T14:00:00Z on Matrix. So, a text-driven meeting! We are using this Etherpad to track notes and plan agendas, although we will start to lean on GitLab issues more for how we plan and organize our future meetings.

This is a start! We can’t wait to build more momentum and get things rolling here. If you are interested in the data science/analytics or Release Party, you can also reply here with your interest, and we can figure out ways to help you get started!
