Resolution / Refreshrate issues on first Logon

Hi

I’ve noticed by occasion (when started a Game via Lutris) that when I logon for the first time to Gnome the Refreshrate is wrong (30 vs. 60 Hertz) and some resolutions are not available (like the 2560x1440 which the game is using and therefore falls back to VGA-resolution)… then when I logout and login back everything is as before. See attachments!

My adapter is: Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. [AMD/ATI] Vega 10 XL/XT [Radeon RX Vega 56/64] (rev c1) and I’m not using any proprietery drivers…

Am I the only one who experiences this?

All right, now after a while I think to have found a way to mitigate this issue, it’s all about the sequence how I switch on the devices…

The problem does not occur when I switch on the 1) screen and then 2) the pc

Still annoying to remember this order…

It may seem frustrating to you, but remember that as the graphics manager loads it polls the monitor for its capabilities so it can be configured properly. Without that info the GDM must guess about how it should be configured and usually ends up in a “safe” mode that does not actually match the monitors capabilities.

I do not understand why you even power off the monitor since almost all newer ones will go into a sleep mode when there is no signal. Long term, certainly, but most times the power draw is so miniscule that leaving the monitor sleeping is a better choice.
