Request package: signal-cli

GitHub - AsamK/signal-cli: signal-cli provides an unofficial commandline, JSON-RPC and dbus interface for the Signal messenger. offers signal-cli, a software that allows to operate signal app via the shell, even to register a number without smartphone. i would so much love to see this in the fedora ecosystem. I note a copr project offering an rpm, but if the fedora community likes Signal, then I think this rpm should be reviewed and rendered a normal package.

The way that packages are added to Fedora is for someone to step up and do the work of packaging and maintaining the software.

Without a volunteer willing to take on the burden of maintaining the package nothing happens, no matter how worthy the package maybe.

Are you willing to do the work? If so we can point you to the next steps.

I can maintain the package as I’m currently the one providing it via copr for my personal use only so far…but now at least a second one is interested in.

I can move content of GitHub - pbiering/signal-cli-rpm: RPM packaged signal-cli for Fedora and Enterprise Linux to Fedora SCM and also start the new-package request for Fedora and once built also for EPEL.

BTW: I’m already maintaining some packages.

is this normal that new-package-request is taking >9 days without any response so far or have I used an no longer supported way?

There are not that many reviewers, so it may take some time for it to happen.

I don’t have any particular interest in this package, but I took a quick skim of the spec, and unfortunately, it won’t be acceptable in Fedora, because all packages must build from source. Since it appears to be Java, I have no idea how to do that, so I can’t be of any more help there.
