Power Management Issues | KDE |

,

I use Fedora 40 and I am very new to Fedora a.k.a Linux. I installed KDE Plasma 6 DE and facing this 15 minutes idle and sleep problem from the day 1. FYI, mine is a PC, not a laptop. So using the 'Sleep after 15 minutes idle ’ makes no sense and not very desirable. Now whatever I configure in the ‘Power management’ option, Fedora doesn’t put it in effect. How can I make Fedora honour my ‘Power management’ configuration?

You posted in a Gnome topic, but are using KDE. Please look at Powerdevil in Plasma 6 and Beyond. You should create a new topic that mentions KDE.

Thank you for your advice. As I am very new to Fedora community and couldn’t be sure about where to post my topic, I posted my question in ‘Ask Fedora’. Anyway, the mods have arranged my post in proper manner and I am very grateful to @hamrheadcorvette for this. In future, I will first search about the topic and post it in relevant forum/category.

Now, in the topic. I have seen the blog post from your link and from that post, I came to realise about my wrongful assumption / understanding of the integration of KDE a.k.a a ‘Desktop Environment’ with Fedora a.k.a the Linux OS. As I came from a 20+ years long Windows environment, my understanding of the relation between a DE and Linux OS was like a theme applied on Windows OS. As you all know, themes in Windows, works as superficial cosmetic surgery which does not get involved with the OS, better to say Windows doesn’t allow it. But as far as I can see now that a DE in Linux integrates far deeper in the OS and even modifies the behaviour of the OS to some extent. Please correct me if I am wrong. Now, this has some pros and cons as I feel. Pros: System becomes more user-friendly. Cons: Like this ‘Power Management’ issue, this deep integration creates issues which the actual OS may not has because OS developers will never overlook such a flaw. It is the code from KDE which created this conflict. There are more issues with KDE like, on the login screen of Plasma, I have to press the Numlock multiple times to activate the Numpad on the keyboard and after log in, I have to press the Numlock multiple times again to activate the Numpad. But without KDE installed, in Fedora 40 workstation, that problem doesn’t occur. As I am very new to Fedora a.k.a Linux, I am still exploring and I will post my feedbacks on Fedora and KDE as an user.

Note: I have also registered in KDE forum with the same ID I have here and I will post my findings on KDE, in there also. And again, thank you for your advice and help.
