Hey everyone, so new to fedora, i chose to install third party. then i opened gnome software and select to install NVIDIA, which ti then gets me to sign with a code for secure boot. which i did, but the drivers would never work… so i install them manually via terminal, and signed them which worked…
but when i try to play video it says could not initialise open gl.
So, any idea how to fix the signign from the third part / any thoughts on the opengl
Can you please clarify what you mean by “third party”? I use the Nvidia drivers from RPM Fusion and they work fine. Are these the ones you are referring to?
The page also links to this page on signing the drivers:
(If you’ve installed using Gnome-software, these are the ones that should be installed).
Can you please provide full error messages about the open gl issue? We can’t do much without complete error messages as they contain critical information required to debug issues.
hiya! please see attached. So if i install them via gnome straight after it promots to do the mok key, after i do the mok key… the software shows but my card doesnt… so it doesnt work..
but if i install them via the terminal, and do the key, it works well..
i wonder if i have done somethig wrong… and thats cuasing that opengl & chrome problem ive been ahving..
i might start fresh and not install that and see how chrome is / playing a video
okay this tim ei disabled secure boot & installed nvidida directly from gnome… all working perfectly, chrome works, videos play, perfect.
so this lead me to… either when i installed manually i done somethiong wrong - or something with secure boot it doesnt like, even though its all installed correctly.
Installing the secure boot keys is simplest from the command line using the instructions in the file /usr/share/doc/akmods/README.secureboot.
That has worked every time perfectly for me.
On initial installation of the nvidia drivers the key is not yet created so the kernel modules are built but not signed. The first time the nvidia drivers are installed it installs the akmods package but the key is not automatically created until the next reboot or when done manually.
The modules can be rebuilt using the command sudo akmods --rebuild --force and will then be signed. A reboot after that should now allow the modules to be properly loaded with secure boot enabled.
thanks for this.. yeah the thing thats a little confusing is when you install nvivida from the third party repos in software, it installs then prompts the key to enter when you sign, then it restarts to the boot screen where you enter that… then it doesnt work…
