No sound at all in Fedora 41

I’ve had no sound on my machine at all for about a week now. Unfortunately, I don’t know exactly when it started because I haven’t been using my laptop for audio things recently and I usually have my machine muted. (I’ve been catching up on movies/shows on my TV instead) Even if I use headphones, I have no sound, so it’s not my speakers.

I’ve looked around at other threads, but even when the behaviour seems to be identical to others that folks have posted, their solutions don’t work or their diagnostics steps are completely unfruitful. (there’s also the problem that I’m new to linux and know next to nothing about sound systems - so it’s perfectly possible that I’m just missing something important)

Any advice is greatly appreciated!

Here is a bunch of basic info and other things I’ve seen requested in other posts:

You seem to be using KDE which is not my forte, but there should be a system control panel where you have options to select the sound output & input devices.

Check there and see what is available.
You said the speakers and headphones do not work. I see that you have an nvidia GPU and it uses HDMI audio. My best guess is that the audio output is directed to the hdmi and merely needs switched back to the built-in sound card.

While trying your suggestion (having tried that at first already), I discovered something very weird. The problem seems to be that I deactivated my microphone, which removed the only working audio output option.

I’ll leave my mic on “mute” instead…

Thank you!

have such kind of the ptoblem
