i opened an account here to get rid of my frustration with fedora. After the last update i can’t play videos anymore. What is this rubbish? Are the developers not able to avoid this? it costs me hours of internet searching and trial and error. And in the end I may even have messed up the system. This is amateurism.

Welcome to edora @stemalo
No it is opensource! And does live from beta-testers, user who report bugs and also users who translate and write manuals. Feel free to help!
Anyway, probably you want to tell us whats happen, maybe we can give you some help.
Just do not forget to tell us, how your environment looks like.
Could you please explain what the issue is and we can look into it? I’ve upgraded my system continuously along with many others and we’be not run into any issues at all here, certainly not anything like what you describe.
Also, all stable Fedora releases are well tested and supported. Of course, bugs happen as they do in all software, but the stable releases are not beta software.
Unfortunately he not mentioned what he uses. With Beta-tester I refereed also to the beta versions and or rawhide not really the stable version. In other words a lot of opportunities to make the excellent Fedora Linux even better.
Consider moving this to a different section, as this could be related to some talking points in the discussions we’ve had of late.
Till now it is just a rant. And I also marked it as it. If the OP relates the issue having, it will probably remain in ask.
It looks like we get some feedback. When it gets constructive we still can move it to the discussion section. Otherwise we better let it die.
Until details of the problem are provided best this forum can do is this:
TLDR of the linked content:
- Describe your setup - SW and HW, be specific.
- Describe the problem AND what you already tried to fix it, be specific.
- Provide relevant configs, logs, errors, etc.
- Be patient. You haven’t payed a dime to get the OS and help here, most of members are spending their free time to help others - appreciate it. It might be that a person who exactly knows how to help you is simply sleeping on the other side of the globe at the moment. Wait until he/she is up.
It’s exactly as I thought. Since hours I try to solve this problem and I found tons of possible solutions. Copy and past all this stuff into the terminal and nothing happens. At the end my system will be corrupted. If I’m able to get a solution, after the next update I’ve to do all this work from scratch again. I’m not wondering why so many people using Windows.
But you have not asked here for us to help Why do “all this searching” when you can come here and ask for help
Huh? Really? There’s a forum here with people willing to help if you’d be specific about what your issue is. And I’ll tell you a not-so-secret secret… copying and pasting things then executing in terminal from random sites, posts, blogs, or YouTube is a BAD idea.
Explain the problem calmly. People on this forum want to help, but everything you’ve said so far isn’t helpful in arriving at an answer.
No, you haven’t - you are back.
No one is supposed blindly copy and paste internet stuff without understanding it or at least understanding the consequences. That’s not safe at least. And BTW, you made a backup before experimenting, right ?
That exactly as you say - people are happy with Windows, because they believe that for ~$150 bucks they can buy peace of mind. But they can’t. So they look for alternatives. Linux, namely Fedora, is one of the alternatives. It is free but it has its toll - thinking and collaboration.
Now think again - we asked details to help you, but we got next rant instead. Consider this - people here are still trying to listen to you and help you. But we needs details anyway…
Hello @stemalo , since you have taken the effort to join the community to post this self described rant, I can only assume you have read the code of conduct that applies to all in the community. So comment like …
and …
Are definitely not constructive and indeed fall outside of the spirit of the Fedora CoC (Code of Conduct :: Fedora Docs).
So freely available software cost you hours due to your trial and error.
On that I can agree, this post is indeed amateurish.
If you would like to get to the root cause of your issue(s) I know there are people willing to help around here, even me.

I’m honestly surprised that this post has received such a strong response while mine has only garnered a few replies and no clear answers.
This lack of visibility could impact many potential new users. I suppose that’s just how things go sometimes, but I’m feeling a bit down about the outcome.
I don’t see a focused and constructive development that can rise from this topic so I close it
