Yesterday I did an upgrade and kernel-5-18-15-200.fc36 was installed. When I rebooted I got a lot of text on a black screen and then everything stopped. I can safely boot into the previous kernel with no problem. I tried reinstalling and still the same problem. I have never encountered something like this and I’m lost. Read through the doc’s but really didn’t understand them and worried about screwing everything up. Any help or suggestions is greatly appreciated.

Can you look at dnf history
for the most recent update and post the output here in the Preformatted text tags </>
so we can see what was actually upgraded?

as requested, thanks for the help
john
What I see there that may be related is a lot of grub packages, a lot of rpm packages, the kernel upgrade, and some coreutils packages.
My first step would be to sudo dnf reinstall coreutils* grub2* rpm* kernel*5.18.15*
and then reboot to see if it is fixed. The reinstall cannot hurt anything and may fix the issue.

Thanks for your help. I did what you suggested and no difference at all. Is it possible to undo the history that did the upgrade and then do another upgrade? BTW I have 3 tower servers running fedora server version, all with the new kernel and no problems at all. Didn’t think to check that before. At least it narrows to this computer.

Just for your info, I removed the kernel and then did a upgrade and got a new kernel (5.18.16-200.fc36.x86_64). now when I do “dnf info kernel” the 5.18.15 version is gone and the computer reboots just fine.
Thanks again for your help and suggestions.
