The correct output seems to be “Duplex” but it starts with delay.. but it seems keeping it on.

Never mind, it seems working randomly, sometimes i click and nothing happens. And sometimes it does work but with quite a delay, like maybe 10-15 seconds or so. Yet, it’s better than nothing since something gave a response through pavucontrol somehow.
It’s very random because if I open rhythmbox without pavucontrol, it crashes quite fast and does no sound at all.
When I have it, it functions sometimes (on “Duplex analogique” or “Sortie analogique”), and sometimes not. And if I open pavu, then rhythm, it works but as soon as i quit pavu, rhythm crashes instantly.
Yet I tried mp3 through vlc (since it didn’t recognise it in Videos and Rhythm) without launching anything, and it works instantly. that’s mysterious. If I open pavu to see where it comes out from, it’s in “Duplex” in Configuration apparently. And in “output” it’s well selected on speakers.
The test sounds you gave me work, but the sound testing in settings still does not.
In a terminal use journalctl --no-hostname --follow to look for messages while running the tests.
aaah, sudo was missing

pavucontrol config profiles: the analog stereo duplex profile enables also the input device, while analog stereo output disables the input device
default should be analog stereo duplex, but you could also try the output only profile.
Volume can be adjusted in the playback tab or in output devices. The Playback tab can adjust volume for individual apps, too.
Okay so in order I tried
- Alsa, Pulse test tracks. Worked.
- Rhtyhmbox without anything. Nothing went out, nothing loaded.
- Pavu control then Rhythmbox. I had to click on “Sortie analogique” (output) then come back on “Duplex” to have sound". I got sound and the timer functioned.
- Somehow mp3 on rhythmbox finally agreed to work if I put it on “Sortie” then “duplex”. Timer worked also.
- Vlc functioned with no issue whatsoever.
- Videos worked also with “Sortie” then “Duplex”. Timer also works.
VLC bugged at first launch so I restarted it, no problem. It’s not a real error here.
If you see Nautilus it’s because my test track is on my external drive.
So somehow, it seems that sound isn’t totally lost forever, it may be some config paths that are missing or something.
Hm, even sharing one test one by one through the journal logs doesn’t give me enough post character because there are a lot of lines showing up, a lot of them in red btw. How can I transfer you all of that ?
About your line with sudo : outside of the password and the final timing, it didn’t show me anything.. but I could paste the journal logs

You might append |& tee my-journal.log to your journalctl command. Then, when you end the command with Ctrl+C, you should have a file with all the lines that were displayed and you could upload it with fpaste my-journal.log and share the link here.
The paste.centos.org server that fpaste uploads to will only keep the data for 24 hours by default.

If I undestand this correctly then you had to change the profile from ‘Analog Stereo Duplex’ to ‘Analog Stereo Output’ and back again to ‘Analog Stereo Duplex’ to hear any audio through the internal speakers?

So start pavucontrol but doing nothing here, and then start rhythmbox or vlc etc result in no audio?

Yes, exactly. I had to change from duplex to stereo and back to duplex to hear something for Rhythmbox/Video. VLC works normally without needing anything done and same for the front/back tracks you gave me.
When I close and open Pavu again, it’s by default on Duplex.
If I don’t change the output/config on Pavu, it’s silent. It un-silences as soon as I come back on Duplex after having been just a sec on Stereo output. You’ve got all of that in the logs I shared upwards, normally.
I’ll switch to Mint anyway so I may able to give you the Mint commands soon.
one more question:
if you connect a TV or an external display with its own loudspeakers to the HDMI port and select this audio output device in gnome/audio-settings then you can succesfully test the left and right speaker and can hear audio, correct?

As for HDMI port I have no idea yet, I believe the day it worked I had it on HDMI but I’m not sure anymore. It works on Mint where I am now, at least. Fedora I don’t know, I have other things to do tonight so I’ll see when I can test that
