I recently switched from Ubuntu 24.10 to Fedora 42-beta and upgraded to LibreOffice 25.2. Before, on my previous system (Ubuntu with LibreOffice 24.8.5), I was able to simply drag and drop a PDF file into LibreOffice Writer, and it would appear as an image on the page. However, after reinstalling Fedora and upgrading to LibreOffice 25.2, this method no longer works.
When I try to drag and drop a PDF file, nothing happens, and I’m unsure of what I’m missing or what changed.
Has anyone else experienced this? What additional steps or packages do I need to install to restore this functionality?
Yes i have drawer. The problem is that when you try to add a PDF to Writer, it used to work by simply dragging and dropping the file onto the page, and the PDF would appear as an image. Now, when I drag and drop, sometimes Writer pops up and asks to “insert section…” and other times / file it just shows an empty box (barely noticeable by the anchor tag) without the PDF image.
Are you on Workstation 42, and was LibreOffice installed as RPM from the repos?
I’m on Silverblue 41, LibreOffice is installed as Flatpak from Flathub, version 25.2.2.2, and the drag-and-drop of PDF files into Writer works as you would expect.
On Rawhide, on the other hand, the same action opens an Insert Section dialogue, whereas trying to add it via Insert->Image route throws an “Image filter not found” error.
So it seems that with the RPM version of LibreOffice 25 some component is missing. You could try raising the issue[1], and/or use the Flatpak version in the meantime.
Against Fedora, I’d say, given that the Flatpak version is working. ↩︎
OMG, yes, now it works! Looks like @tqcharm you were right—there’s something off with the RPM version. In the Flatpak version, everything works as expected!
If you have a multi-page document where you need to insert PDFs in the middle of text or between pages without disrupting the formatting… and - Draw is Draw, it’s not Writer!
P.S. F42 is a clean / fresh install, no tweaks so far
