Laptop not using Nvidia card even after installing proprietary drivers

I am installing fedora for a friend on his HP ZBook studio G5. it has an igpu and an Nvidia Quadro card.

After installing the Nvidia drivers using the fedora fusion tutorial the GPU is detected and appears to be functional. (in the program “recourses” all info about the GPU is present)

But the system never uses the Nvidia GPU. every program I run just uses the Igpu. I have tried to switch using envycontrol to no avail. the bios is also set to hybrid graphics mode.

Added f40, gnome

By default it should use the iGPU unless it’s a Vulkan app e.g. a game, or you start the application by right-clicking on its launch icon and selecting the “Launch using Discrete Graphics Card” option. Could you please elaborate further what your question is about? You want to change this default behavior or you meant that even if you explicitly request the dGPU it does not seem to be working at all?

If you want to make the dGPU your primary GPU, you can read more about it on RPM Fusion’s Optimus page, but that will eat your battery faster.
