Hi,
I have a dell laptop with an i5-11320H processor and for over 2 weeks the processor temperatures on it are weirdly high. Started after kernel 6.15.3 update. I’m talking about:
- 60°C idle (1.2-1.3GHz)
- 70°C with a browser open (stays around 2.5GHz)
- 77-80°C with a youtube video playing (boosts over 3GHz)
These before were at least 15 degrees lower. It also literally halved battery life - 3hours to 1.5hours makes the laptop even more unusable.
What I’ve tried:
- changing tuned-ppd profiles (already using Framework ones as I’ve had problems before with default ones)
- downgrading kernel to 6.14.0
- downgrading intel-gpu-firmware and intel-vsc-firmware
- removing/readding multimedia codecs
- disabling background apps and gnome extensions
At first thought it’s an issue with my laptop, as that processor has really high TDP and Dell like to hire deaf people with engineering degrees from Temu to design their cooling, but it doesn’t seem so. I’ve changed the thermal paste on it recently and under Ubuntu/Kali Live temps are normal.
Would appreciate if somebody can help, as I don’t know what more to try
