Kio-admin: "invalid protocol" error

I have an install, had a rough history.

Originally COSMIC by @ryanabx then under the uBlue namespace, rebased from Silverblue to main to Kinoite, then had it lying around. Some time on Rawhide, some time on F40, never above.

Got the kernel boot error, synced the boot partition files, then it worked again.

Upgraded to latest 40 (based on uBlue Kinoite, so Fedora Kinoite OCI images).

I then rebased back to OSTree Fedora Kinoite, vanilla, because OSTree still saves data, I wanted to reduce the dependency chain, and I know my tweaks.

I use this SSD as my backup install, as I cannot get Anaconda to boot anymore so I just have this as my “zygote” and for all other systems use Clonezilla (see my howto).

Now on this system, I want to restore a backup.

The system is on a SATA SSD, all normal. I have the backup on an NVME, connected with an Inatek USB-C-to-NVME adapter.

I mount that but it is not accessible, so I want to use kio-admin to use it anyways.

I use Ctrl+L to edit the file path, and enter admin: at the beginning. But unlike all the times I used this on my old install, I get invalid protocol: admin.

This is strange, has anyone seen that?

Trivial question: is kio-admin installed? (rpm -qi kio-admin)

I mean, this is vanilla Kinoite, but I will check

I should report this as a bug

I installed and updated Kinoite on a VM and admin:// works.
Out of curiosity did you try with another user?

No, I will try.

Yes on my main install admin:/ works too
