I’m running KDE Plasma 6.3.3 and KDE Framework 6.12 0 with QT framework 6.8.2 on Fedora 40. On most applications when I use an option from navigation menu such as help>about the application overlays the entire window with the help>about screen. Previously it would just pop up a window with the requested information. My question is is there a way to return to the pop up window instead of an overlay? This happen in Konsole, Dolphin, evolution, gramps, and a host of other applications. Really annoying!
Thanks in advance for any help or suggestions. In case this isn’t an appropriate platform for this question please redirect me to another more appropriate platform.
It is not maximise but just covering the original window whatever size it was. The problem I see is the X for closing the window is exactly of the X of the original window and if the system reads 2 mouse clicks it closes both the original window and the pop up.
Not only the above mention problem, sometime I just need to transcribe some info from the pop up into original window and it was nice to be able to see both pop up and original.
I’m on the Wayland. Another thought occurred to me and it may not have anything to do with it but this only seems to occur on application which I have “Configured Special Applications Settings”. I have a number of applications which I have defined the size, position and window where I want it to be. I just noticed that it appeared but it was on the applications that I use most. I went back and checked other random application which I haven’t made any adjustments and the behave as I would like. Any idea about what could be causing this in those settings?
In KWin 6.3.4 there is no “main window” option when setting up window rules. There’s a “normal window”, but this doesn’t seem to mean only the main window of an application: it includes a lot of dialogs too.
For example in Dolphin, my rule for “normal window” gets applied to most popups, confirmation dialogs and so on. In the KWin Debug Console I can see those windows have windowType equal to NET::Normal. So it’s not surprising they pick up that window rule - it seems that some applications (even inbuilt KDE ones) don’t “label” their windows in the most helpful way for creating rules.
More hand holding required. When I go to top bar and right click and select “More Actions” > Configure Special Applications Settings, I see under Window matching a item labeled Window Types. It is set to All Selected. This is what I assume you mean me to change. However when I select the drop down all I see is a White box with little white boxes down the left side no labels. What do I select or am i completely in the wrong place?
