To be fair to Phoronix, their coverage of the KDE promotion was pretty reasonable

You are right, I haven’t really checked Phoronix, and their article seems to be quite good this time.

@thephatlee even if you link this here in the water cooler checking links and functions is appreciated too.

Clicking on the Youtube button gives an error. You have to make a screenshot of the picture and set a link, To avoid this.

Otherwise just make a blank in front of the link and it just appears without screenshot.

Works fine on my end no errors and embedded is also working…

So you mean you need to check my link that it dosent contain anything sus even it is embedded that you don’t need to click the link

Ööö say what??? Now you lost me on the part make a screenshot to make it as a link? Sorry but again what???

Yes, this particular one seems to be from the same family of Linux content creation as the YouTubers with headlines and thumbnails like “UBUNTU DROPS OLD CPUs?!?!” when they were figuring out how to test the idea of possibly enabling some x86-64_v3 builds.

Nothing one can’t read in a fraction of the time, no actual personal insight on top of the core news, just wild speculation. I’ve pretty much had to stop clicking on anything Linux-related on YouTube to avoid the barrage of that kind of nonsense getting pushed at me.

Yes, I got just the first time an error … afterward it works, sorry for being to fast.

Please do not start to communicate this way. When I try to give feedback, I do it for good that our content here keeps readable. Even if the value of the news are quite low, you still helping such YouTubers to be successful while pushing them. The Message worked.

There wasn’t anything to correct and feedback related… Yes that is not even bad just like what is happening…

Think first before acting if still not sure think twice before posting

It was absolutely predictable. And going beyond, possibly the people that do the request where expecting this to happen. Since the change “is intended to give more visibility” to KDE; nothing better that click bait news for that

I had the same doubt reading “news” on Distrowatch.
I had to go and read the discussion of the KDE proposal.
Which is not a bad thing.

Anyway I think it is the times we are living, there is too much information and most people cannot handle it. The result is lies and truth are becoming the same.

There is a generation of people coming of age that have been taught by social media that it’s more important to be popular than to be right.

The necessity to prove, if a notice is true or false got obsolete. The notice has to be clickable.
Responsibility for checking the veracity of a message, has simply been passed on to the reader. This makes the whole thing almost uncontrollable.

Or in other words, a claim sells better than a fact.

I think it is worse than that.
On the local scale yes, it is about selling.
On the global scale it is about brainwashing people into believing all ideas are both true and false. All behaviours are both good and bad. Everybody is a genius and an idiot, a saint and a sinner. Nothing makes sense, nothing has got a value. The goal of it is to make it impossible to make decisions then to self-determinate. To act and to be responsible for the actions. We are paralized because we cannot even think, let alone to act. So we are passive and focused only on enjoyment that translates in consuming and we depend on whoever provides and can shut it down.

“Checking the veracity” is what I was taught long ago when children were given heroes as “role models”. Nowadays children are taught there aren’t heroes and there isn’t any holy grail. The meaning of life is not to achieve something, to demonstrate valor, it is just to put stuff in the orifices. “Success” is measured only by quantity, how many things you put in your orifices and how big. Among the many consequences, nobody becomes adult any more, we all stay children for ever.

Never give up to believe that there are still good researched news. I think the one below counts as a good one

Unfortunately we are looking at a future where you won’t be able to recognize “true” images, videos, voices, that is an easily foreseen consequence of the “digitalization”. Once all the “media” are just numbers, you can manipulate at will.

Not only from the technical point of view because you can’t recognize a number from another but also because of the “plausibility”, meaning you see something, you hear something, you read something that “looks true enough”. Then the machine can flood the word with “created from 0 media”.

Do you remember any movie about something like that?
Something about human beings living like fetuses inside pods, connected to the machine with cables directly in their nervous system and who are fed an “augmented reality”.

Once upon a time there was a big divide: does some information make sense?
If I am told that pig can fly, do I need to verify or I can tell they can’t fly because of physics? Nowadays more and more people believe. Where “believing” means they assume that something is “true” even if it is physically impossible. People say when we think 10/5=2 we have been lied for centuries by “powers”. And so on. And why go to school when all you are told are lies? All you need is some “holy” book.

Soon enough here comes some video on Youtube with flying pigs. See? I told you, we have been lied all along.
