Introduction, from Windows to Ubuntu and now Fedora - I'm not going back

Hello World,

I’m Mario, a long time Linux user, and former Ubuntu worshipper, who’s now a happy Fedora convert and fanatic.

For someone born and raised in a third world country, computers were a privilege. Nonetheless, I dabbled into them at an early age - starting with an Apple IIc my paternal uncle sent over from NYC. I have used Windows 95, 98, XP, ME, and 2K. It was Ubuntu afterwards - 16, 18, 20, I escaped the “matrix” at Ubuntu 22.

Now rocking with the best; Fedora 41 (KDE) as my daily driver. I used Neon for a minute though, went back to Ubuntu, then returned for good. It was a good decision. Ubuntu desktop never works right out of the box, never!

Once upon a time, a long time ago I published a how-to on installing and running Wordpress on a free tier AWS server. That how-to has been on the internet for more than a decade. Over the years, I developed strong interest in technical writing (DevRel). I work as a manager, in a small consulting company, but intend to become a full time technical writer.

I am here to contribute, learn, grow and disrupt the OS-verse with the Fedora community.

Live long and prosper!

Welcome to Fedora, which I’ve been using since Fedora Core 1, because it has worked for me in nearly every situation (and because in the early parts of that history, I needed to test something very specific on it)… but I think you’re being a little harsh on Ubuntu, which is very close to the same age and has worked well (yes, out-of-box desktop) for a ton of folks too!

Welcome Mario!

I too have settled in the RPM world. I stared learning more when I stopped distro-hopping. Very happy with Fedora and Sway now.

Technincal writing and documentation is a really undervalued part of the Open Source world. People like me rely on docs to get almost everything done.

The Fedora community is easy to get involved in. Have you checked out chat.fedoraproject.org or the mailing lists Available lists - Fedora mailing-lists ?

Best regards!
Mat
