Introducing the new Anaconda installer

Article Summary:

Intro to the new version of Anaconda, with background information about how it was designed, how it works, and how it makes installing Fedora so much easier due to its new approach.

Article Description:

Fedora’s installer, Anaconda, has a new installer in the works, known as the “Web UI”, and it’s currently scheduled for release in Fedora 42. It’s a new, modern interface that makes installing Fedora easier and provides a few new features.

Some of the new features include explicit support for installing dual-boot, reinstalling Fedora in a recovery mode.

And the new implementation helps to pave the way for better maintainability, easier contributions, accessibility, and web-based remote installations.

Hi, we would like to cross-link this article in [PITCH] Anaconda WebUI Test Week 2024-11-11 through 2024-11-18

It will give users a bit of background for the Test Days if they are interested in that.

So we discussed the current state of the article and we don’t want to block the [PITCH] Anaconda WebUI Test Week 2024-11-11 through 2024-11-18 on this. So instead we will do the cross-linking after it’s ready.

If it would be possible we would then update the Test Days article. If not we can add the link to the wiki page or somewhere else visible.

I’ve posted a draft version of the blog post on WordPress. It’s already the weekend for me here (I normally don’t work Fridays), but we’d like to publish this ASAP, and I wanted to share the draft of what I’ve been working on as soon as I could.

It does still need some edits. I have notes inline in the article (which need to be removed/replaced when they’re addressed, in bold), including one about adding the 3 screencast videos (which can be links to the videos or even inline, if that’s possible).

I’ll be back on Monday. Would it be possible for someone review the article in the meantime? I’d be happy to adjust it however much someone would think it needs it. (We’ve already had the Anaconda team look over it and suggest improvements, which have all been incorporated. But more editing is always good before publishing, especially from people who have more experience editing articles.)

Thanks so much for all your work on this! I’m looking forward to publishing this soon. Ideally early next week… it’d be great to have this ready at the start of the test days, which happen all next week.

One other thing: I need to write a bio for myself on the article as well. I’ll do that on Monday. (I should probably mention about being a designer, starting the Fedora project in the early days, various FOSS projects and initiatives I started, what I currently work on, etc.) Are there guidelines for bios? I assume we’d want to keep it pretty short, like a paragraph.

None that I’m aware of. I’ve seen some fairly long ones, but yeah, less is probably better (but not required).
