IBus preferences accessible through Gnome Shell settings GUI

Hello everyone,

I wanted to bring up an issue I’ve encountered regarding IBus Preferences in Fedora desktop (Gnome Shell). Currently, the only way to access IBus Preferences is through the ibus-setup command or by using gsettings directly. There doesn’t seem to be a way to access it through the Settings GUI in Gnome Shell.

I have a couple of suggestions that might enhance user experience:

  1. Integration into Settings: It would be helpful to have a section under Settings → Keyboard that allows users to open IBus Preferences directly. I think other distributions provide similar functionality, and I believe this could make things more intuitive for Fedora users.
  2. Keyboard Shortcuts Management: IBus offers several configurable keyboard shortcuts for switching between input methods (Super+Space), accessing the emoji input (Super+. and Super+;), and entering Unicode characters by code point (Control+Shift+u). It would be great if these shortcuts could be integrated into the Settings → Keyboard → Keyboard Shortcuts → View and Customize Shortcuts UI. Currently, it can be confusing for users trying to customize their key bindings when some are not listed there. For example, users wanting to use a separate emoji input tool and bind it to Super+. (I know “Switch to next input source” is currently customizable in View and Customize Shortcuts under Typing, it would be helpful to add the others here too).

Its a minor issue but I think would add to the user experience and polish. I’m interested to know if this is something that should be brought up in another forum for consideration.

Possibly submit it as an RFE (request for enhancement) on bugzilla.redhat.com
