HP1000 no longer prints since the system update a few days ago

It seems we posted at the same time.
I followed your last post, but unfortunately without success - as usual, the printout ends up in the spooler and does not go to the printer.

Hmm, I think I’m having the same issue with my HP. I’ve had great luck with Fedora + HP for, say 25 years. In that time, I’ve only ever had to re-add a printer.

In my case, I can get the test print to work though the GNOME Settings > Printers. But, my evince prints all stop with the same error: “Job stopped due to filter errors…”. Even LP still works with PDFs.

Hmm, there are some cups updates available. I’ll try that…

Interesting. That may have helped, but the problem seems to be these particular PDFs. One I created and one I’ve been given.

I hit that error in comment #131. In that case, running sudo hp-setup -i and selecting the option to download the plugins from hp.com resolved the problem. Good luck! :slightly_smiling_face:

Thanks for the help @glb . My issue is with a networked printer. Your issue was strictly with the USB-attached printer, right?

I don’t think I’ve ever used hp-setup, but I’m not sure. What does it do?

Yes, my case was with a USB-attached printer. I’m not really familiar with hp-setup or what it does. In my case, at least, it resolved that filter error when i selected d to download the plugins from hp.com. :slightly_smiling_face:

Hmm, it might be coming back to me. I remember the hplip stuff now. But, it’s been years since I had to do anything with that. Usually the add printer utility just does it, including the hplip stuff. Or it used to. Besides, I think CUPS is going driverless now or something? Well, I worked for you, so maybe I’ll try it.

I have used hplip for several years for my networked printer, and I always make certain that I download the plugin for the current version of hplip.

Note that hplip is included with fedora and gets updated along with all other software (but the plugin is not automatically updated when hplip has a version update). The plugin update is manual.

hp-setup is the command to configure the printer and it prompts to download the plugin. There is the additional command hp-plugin to download the plugin without running setup.

I have found that for my printer the automatic config done by the system has never worked, but using hplip has always worked.
