How can I install Amazon Kindle Desktop?

Hi,

Do you know how can I install and launch Amazon Kindle Desktop app (I suppose with WINE).

Note: I already know the web reading via https://read.amazon.com

I see this page WineHQ - Amazon Kindle for PC 1.9.x but I don’t know how to download the Kindle Windows Desktop executable.

Best regards,
Stéphane

Apparently amazon does not make a kindle reader for use with linux.
They seem to for iphones, mac, android, and windows.

On linux calibre seems able to read the kindle books, though it does not connect directly to kindle.

You might be able to use the installer for the kindle reader with wine, but I have not tried that.

At your own risk, here’s the link I found from Amazon’s website for the Windows exe:

https://kindleforpc.s3.amazonaws.com/65535/KindleForPC-installer-1.40.65535.exe

https://kindleforpc.s3.amazonaws.com/65535/KindleForPC-installer-1.40.65535.exe

That link came from clicking on the PC/Mac badge on this page:

The good news is, it looks like it had a Gold rating on winehq at some point (albeit a much older version), so there’s a decent chance it should work by launching it with wine and going through the installer. Good luck!

I recommend you use bottles instead of wine directly as wine does not have any sandboxing to be safe it is my recommendation to use Flathub—An app store and build service for Linux
flatpak install flathub com.usebottles.bottles
It will create your app and install it in a container and won’t effect your system…
You can create icons also.

Please see wine compatibility:

NOTE

from version 1.39 and higher kindle just crash

Regards.,

I set the Windows version to 8.1 in winecfg and the installation was successful.
I then reverted to Win11 and it worked fine.
