I’m not quite sure what to do from here.

I already tried deleting the contents of * ~/.config/plasma-org.kde.plasma.desktop-appletsrc

and

  • ~/.config/plasmashellrc

I can only really do anything from the console menu (Alt + F2)
Thanks.

here’s what i get when i run plasmashell from the terminal

It looks like it is complaining about the theme. Can you remove that “Desert-Color-Plasma” theme? Or at least change the configuration so your Desktop doesn’t try to use it?

Hey Gregory,

I will do this when I get home. Likely just need to figure out how through the command line or figure out some way with hotkeys to open the KDE settings window.

Thanks.

I changed it but it seemed to not do anything

If you can still get a working console after a freeze, try running sudo journalctl --since=-5min to see if you can find any error messages that might hint at what is going wrong.

Hi Noah. I found another solution asking the kind folks on the KDE forum.

My system just went back to software rendering and I had no idea how to open the menu to change it. Below is the instructions to fix this.

kcmshell6 kcm_qtquicksettings -this will open a menu
change ‘Rendering Backend’ to Automatic.
