while trying open a file in gedit it is saying “Error creating proxy: Error receiving data: Connection reset by peer (g-io-error-quark, 44)” and also “
(gedit:22605): dconf-WARNING **: 04:09:01.491: failed to commit changes to dconf: Error receiving data: Connection reset by peer”
Running gedit as root is strongly discouraged and if I inadvertently attempt to do so I see a similar warning. Run gedit as your regular user and the message likely will not appear.

Editing files outside of your home directory requires elevated privileges:
sudo nano /path/to/file
gedit admin:///path/to/file
