Game mode is active - software updates paused?

While playing a game using Bottles, a popup appeared in GNOME Software saying:

“Game mode is active - software updates paused”

The issue is that this popup stays visible and doesn’t go away, even after closing Bottles or the game. The only way to remove it is by restarting my laptop.

My questions:

  1. What exactly does Game Mode do in Fedora?
  2. How is it getting enabled? is Bottles triggering it automatically?
  3. Is there a way to manually disable or reset Game Mode without a full reboot?

Run

top

to see the processes running - find the PID of the pop-up.

kill ‘pid’

Should get rid of the pop-up, if it is a process unto itself.

For others with the same problem, was it the wine server, the wine device or the .exe?

I think it was the .exe i tried renaming it to something random and it didnt launch at first propably left working on background for some reason

Interesting feature, and more transparent than Windows Game Mode at least!
