I’m attempting to install Jellyfin on my desktop, using the RPM Fusion instructions (Community Maintained Packages | Jellyfin). I’m getting the following result and not sure what to do. I don’t want to screw up anything.
I’d start with: Making sure you're not a bot!
sudo dnf swap ffmpeg-free ffmpeg --allowerasing
Thank you @grumpey. That worked and allowed me to complete the Jellyfin installation.
sudo dnf swap ffmpeg-free ffmpeg --allowerasing
This allowed me to install Jellyfin via the commandline and Fusion repos.
Unfortunately it broke remote desktop connections to this machine. It allows the session and the cursor moves, but the screen is black or sometimes blank.
I’ve performed 3 clean installs of Fedora 43 with KDE/Plasma to pinpoint where it went wrong. This is it. Revert the command by swapping ffmpeg-free and ffmpeg and remote desktop works as expected via Remmina.
I ended up installing Jellyfin by Flatpak which is not what I wanted, but I couldn’t figure out docker, so here we are.
Remmina (actually freedrp) is not built with ffmpeg support in Fedora , so I don’t think it changes anything to switch from ffmpeg.
I’m using Remmina just fine with me (and jellyfin, even on the same host).
I’m not in a position to discuss technicalities. Allow me to repeat myself perhaps more clearly.
Remote desktop on an updated Plasma works fine for me accessing it from Remmina on another Fedora machine.
Running this command
sudo dnf swap ffmpeg-free ffmpeg --allowerasing
Still allows a remote session, where I can control the cursor, but everything else is black.
Running this command
sudo dnf swap ffmpeg ffmpeg-free --allowerasing
Restores a normal, functional remote desktop session with everything visible.
I can swap back and forth as much as I like, this is what I get. Whatever the underlying reason, this is the consequences of running these 2 commands.
I’m using Remmina just fine with me (and jellyfin, even on the same host).
I’m not questioning Remmina, the behavior is exactly the same with KRDC or other remote desktop clients: A black screen.
I think, this comment is a scam.
The intend of hijack a perfectly found solution from on year ago to put unbaked suspicions.
Even claiming that there is no intend to backing technical on the matter, please refrain from commenting again.
I don’t really think you understand English. What a shame.
My comment is of value to people using the solution to the OP’s problem, given they were also using remote desktop. It was put there to add value to the thread, out of respect for Fedora. You should silence yourself.
