Fedora voice commands

please, would anyone give me a piece of advice according to KDE voice command possibility? I need a very simple feature… to be able to command music player with my voice to pause playback or skip to the next song. I need to do it while working with both hands occupied  Is there any software available? I searched but found nothing :frowning:

I don’t know if KDE provides such a feature.

Speech recognition is something that is not entirely solved yet. Of course, the big companies like Amazon, Google, Microsoft, and Apple have both the data and the computing power to make such software, but they do not publish it for use on FOSS systems.

So far, there are projects trying to tackle the problem. I don’t know how easy it is, but you might be interested:

As far as I know, this is just a FOSS wrapper around cloud services. For me, this would be too much of an invasion on my privacy… Decide for yourself.
  • Papers & Publications - Mozilla Research
Currently under development. I’m not aware of any application that uses this, but if you’re a programmer, you could try to write a little script yourself. They provide an API.

I hope this helps, perhaps others know more?

Thanks, I’ll look into it.
Well I don’t need a Star Trek computer verbal interface (do I?) I just need to record three simple voice commands (pause, play, next) and an app which will command the player to do what I define…

I did a quick search and found this:

Perhaps worth a look?

The latest commit to that project was in 2014. This is unmaintained software. The repo and the code are only available in Spanish. That’s not a problem for me, but I would consider it bad practice to name variables in a language other than English. Further, it is for GNOME (GNOME 2, which is very outdated nowadays), and the OP asked for a solution for KDE.

Perhaps the code can be used as a starting point.

You might find some luck with Simon KDE.

It’s an open source voice recognition system.
