Fedora install on a Macbook

Why is there no applications from Fedora in the appstore of apple ?

I now Its kind of locked and idiotproof ( Im an idiot to ). Because I do musik in Ableton and had to choose which OS which I m used to work with in my creational process. I m now stocked with my own produced music tracks. Because apple choosed to change their policy I can not even listening and transfere music that I created in Ableton Live 11 which is converted into MP3 (because .WAV seems not to be the option on macintosch instead .AIFF which is apples own ).

I wish to use Rythmbox or similar application which Im very happy about I use on my “PC”-Labtops running Fedora OS.

I using a Macbook pro 13. (15" retina ultimo) 2.3 GHtz.(Quad core) i7. 16 GB Ram 1600 Mhz DDR3. Alternativ with an Samsung 970 EVO, 1 TB SSD.

The OS installed is Mac OS Big sur. Ver: 11.6.7

As rumours tell by shadows whispering in my ears at night when I sleep. The apple OS was created on a unix kernel which should be a platform which other distribution in the Linux family could adapt to. my knowledge about this technical understanding is to far to know if it is possible to make like a boot of both Fedora and Mac os. Like the one known as Windows and Mac OS.

I read that like CLI there is a similar Bash for Mac OS. ( Sorry it has being a while since I was here in the forum and I forgot ). And I want to be able to run commands similar as I do in Fedoras CLI ( Terminal ).

I know a little about Homebrew but as I understand it is for solving other issues.

Do any of you have the experience to share please.

I have Fedora 36 running paralell to MacOS (10.13.6, HighSierra) on real hardware (baremetal), on a Macbok Pro8,2 (early 2011) and on an iMac11,1 (late 2009).

There are some intricacies involved…

First you need to shrink your main MacOS partitions from within MacOS, using ‘disk utility’ to make some space available for Linux.

Then, you need to boot the machine from a prepared Linux USB drive by holding down the option key upon starting up.

After sucessful installation there remains the main task to keep the Macbook/iMac from overheating, but it can be done, once you learn how. ‘Mbpfan’ is the best tool for that, which I keep using.

Another thing, regarding the new Fedora 36, I installed Xfce desktop environment on both machines, as it greatly reduces cpu loads, in addition to Gnome 42, which is the main DE in Fedora 36.

All this takes some considerable amount of time. If you are willing to go through all these steps, I’m glad to be of further help to you, or anyone else.

Thank you. Does it matter which version of Mac OS is installed as older versions than the .zsh or .Bash shell run in Mac OS Terminal. Depending on Mac OS version

I created the partition for Fedora 36. But it seems that I am locked out of as SystemAdmin and has to erase and reinstall my Mac OS. The question is which Mac OS is the most suitable for Fedora as the earlier version is based on Bash

Sorry. Perhaps there is some kind of misunderstanding involved?
I am really not clear, what you are wanting to do with the Mac shell? Do you want to install linux apps from the Mac shell, or what?

What I meant in my post was, you can install Fedora alongside MacOS on your Mac computer. Then on boot, you can decide, if you want to boot the computer into MacOS or into Linux, by pressing the Option-key (Alt-key) and hold it down until the different boot otions appear on screen.

I don’t think this matters at all, which version of shell you use in your MacOS, as “shell versions” only are apps, to run Unix commands and all can practically do the same. So, what is it exactly that you wanto to do in a MacOS shell?

I totally do not undeerstand where you are coming from here. What are you trying to do? Why would you have to reinstall your MacOS?

Do you mean, you cannot boot into MacOS anymore, at all? If so, you should install the MacOS version that came with your Mac computer and update it to the latest possible version. Be careful though, as installing MacOS versions that are not suitable for your computer can make it ver slow, or even dysfunctional.

Which exact version of MacBook Pro do you have?

Is it one of these models?

Apple OS operating system goes way back on Lisa after Macintosh in 1984 corresponding to the launch of Microsoft Word and Excel. A fascinating experiment. The move to iOS comes from open source Darwin project that is a fork of FreeBSD and now closed source propriety software on closed source propriety hardware. Microsoft launched a collaborative project with Apple installing Windows, Linux is possible but you will find yourself bricked out of iOS, dual booting is limited as Apple keeps a hand on their devices by telemetry. As a musicien creator, keep track on Adobe Creative Cloud with first class apps unavailable on Linux, full support on iOS limited on Windows.

Note: You may need to give Terminal full disk access. Go to Apple menu :green_apple: > System Preferences… > Security & Privacy, then add Terminal to Full Disk Access.

You need the OEM recovery partition that means Apple preinstalled software. Fedora installer gives option to preserve or delete partitions.
