Hi all, I am starting to enjoy Fedora for personal use. At work I am a heavy user of Microsoft Edge it’s very convenient for me to use it on my Fedora as I sync the personal profile. After some research I came to get it to work fine by adding the following config, which makes it use X11. It works flawlessly. I came across a similar recommendation for Google Chrome.
--ozone-platform=x11
I’ve just read about removing some support for X11 on Fedora 43. Would this config be impacted? I mean could I use Edge with x11 on Fedora 43?
By default your system with be use Wayland for the desktop.
However both Gnome and KDE also include the Xwayland server that provides you with X11 application support.
So long as Edge works with Xwayland you will be supported for the fore seeable future.
Do you need to use X11 because Edge does not support Wayland yet?
Yes. The save as dialog for downloads was crashing and launching it with oxygen x11 worked perfecltly. So it appears the wayland support is not yet there.
