Fedora 40 server fails to boot

I have the following error when booting my Fedora 40 server

Here’s the corresponding GRUB entry

Was running fine on an SSD disk which I installed about a month ago. The server was shutdown with the command rather than simply switching it off / power failure.

How can I recover this?

Just had some interesting finding

  • The server was running fine
  • I have removed a HDD today
  • Went into the BIOS and saved and exited
  • Tried to boot and I got the above behaviour
  • Put the HDD removed today back into the server and the server comes back up normally

Does Fedora still look for this drive I have removed? If so what do I need to do to remove this HDD as I need it in another server?

If it is mentioned in /etc/fstab, yes, it would look for it and won’t complete the initialization process.

I put nofail 0 2 at the end of stuff in fstab to iirc avoid that for drives I temp-mount:

PARTUUID=x /var/ftp/nas1 ext4 defaults,nofail 0 2

Thanks. This was a permanent drive so /etc/fstab is updated accordingly. Totally forgot that
