I am having trouble with the Epson Expression Home XP-225 Printer I have just obtained, it scans perfectly well but am have trouble setting it up to print. It shows up under Printers – Systems Settings but I am unable to set it up drivers for it. Any help would be appreciated.
the printer side, is it being configured via usb or wifi?
are you setting up the printer via kde configuration menu?
what app are you using for the scanner, the epson one from the repos?
Connecting via USB and I am using Image Scan! For Linux 2.30.4. How do you get the KDE Configuration Menu?
you never said if you are on kde or gnome

Sorry about thar I am on KDE Plasma 44 and Image Scan was downloaded fron the Epson Site.
on kde most of us use discover to install things, there is a epson scan there if you look for it in discover
i was doing a search and epson does not make any linux driver for this old printer and if doesnt have a driver in the system already installed, it will be more difficult to make it work
to install or manage printer in kde, enter via the start menu and in the field where you can write something to do a search write system settings, the first result should be system settings, click on it
in the window that will open look on the left side for printer, should be option 9 from top to bottom
that will open the menu where you find printers installed and you can install more printers
do you see any printer listed there?
I already have Epson Scan2 installed which works ok on my Epson V370 Scanner. In Settings -Printer - Add Printers shows up the Epson XP-225 but no manual Driver for this Printer is shown. In the Epson Support for this printer it shows a Epson Inkjet Printer Driver (ESC/P-R) for Linux which I have downloaded and will try it.
there used to be a package epson-inkjet-printer-escpr, but it’s not maintained anymore.
You could download the source from Epson’s support site and try compiling the required filter, here is a github link.
As a workaround, you could also try the available gutenprint driver for some older(?) epson xp printers…

Update: I missed the RPM download option.
With that driver installed (sudo dnf install ./epson-inkjet-printer-escpr-1.8.9-1.x86_64.rpm )
and after restarting cups sudo systemctl restart cups lpinfo now shows the XP-225 printer
$ lpinfo --make-and-model epson -m |grep -i xp-225
lsb/usr/epson-inkjet-printer-escpr/Epson/Epson-XP-225_Series-epson-inkjet-printer-escpr.ppd.gz Epson XP-225 Series - epson-inkjet-printer-escpr 1.8.9-1 (Seiko Epson Corporation)
Not clear what happened when you tried this driver — use journalctl to look for error messages: Viewing logs in Fedora. Epson provides the source code, but no details of system requirements, so it would not be surprising that the source code needs updating for recent Fedora versions.
Did you you download epson-inkjet-printer-escpr-1.8.9-1.src.rpm from the Epson Download Center or a compiled version as I havn’t managed to complile this.
I compiled the src downloaded from the github link with minimal changes.
But as I wrote in my update to my previous post, you can use the compiled driver rpm epson-inkjet-printer-escpr-1.8.9-1.x86_64.rpm from epson’s website.
the printer utility epson-printer-utility-1.2.3-1.x86_64.rpm requires some QT5 libraries.
sudo dnf install qt5-qtbase-gui
I tried all this in a F44 vm and the printer utility appeared after some time.
Where did you find the epson-inkjet-printer-escpr-1.8.9-1.x86_64.rpm on the Epson Website all I can find the source rpm or a deb file?
i tought i was crazy for saying i couldnt find anything, glad you found the same(not really glad, but glad, you know)
did you tested gutenprint drivers? i used to be able to run my old samsung with gutenprint too
That fixed the problem I just never noticed that before. Thank you for all your help.
