Drag and Drop into a browser also opens a file

I have an issue with drag-and-dropping into a browser to upload files. I’m using F43 KDE and Brave Browser, which is installed with rpm, not with flatpak.

Drag-and-drop actually works fine and the file uploads to the website as expected, but the file sometimes also opens in another app when I do this, which is disruptive to my workflow. I’m not sure why this is happening or what I can do to stop it. I wonder if anyone has any troubleshooting ideas or any leads I could follow?

Thanks in advance!

If you do not drop the file on a region of the web pages designed to accept the file, then the browse will open it. And unless the file is natively supported by the browser that may use the associated app I assume.

Thanks for the reply. Right, that makes sense. I am careful to drop the file in the region designed to accept it. And in fact, the webpage does accept the file successfully. Interestingly, I tested dropping the file onto an incorrect spot on the page, and in this case, the browser opens the file AND the file still opens in another app. I’ve done the same file drop dozens of times per workday in Windows and in Ubuntu for years without any unexpected results. I’m trying to figure out if it’s a Plasma thing or a Wayland thing, since both are new to me.

Also, to clarify another point I’m not dragging and dropping from dolphin file manager, I’m dragging and dropping from the brave://downloads/ page onto another brave tab opened side-by-side on the same monitor. On the brave downloads page, clicking the file causes it to open. So it kind of seems like when I drag and drop, it acts like it registers a mouse click at the same time. Not sure if that helps

I’ve tried using dolphin file manager as my drag-and-drop source instead of the brave downloads page, and I don’t seem to have this issue anymore. So maybe something funny with brave browser? Anyways, My workaround is fine. Thanks!
