Does Fedora Workstation have VM images? | No, make your own

I looked around but all the VM images seem to be without a desktop. What should I do if I want to test stuff that needs graphics?

(Besides Live USB, it rests on each reboot and has storage limit. It’s getting a little old for me…)

p.s. I also thought about installing Workstation inside GNOME Boxes, but the ISO won’t boot for some reason.

You might have to select the boot option. UEFI seams to be the right option. Have you tried this?

You do not need a VM image, while installing it in boxes or virt-manager you create your own. As you like it.

Yup, installing it myself seems to be the way.

I just realized I ran out of disk space, and the auto downloaded image was 0 byte, which probably was why it couldn’t boot…

p.s. GNOME disks says I was only 80% full, not sure what happened…

Before you install, you can always check if your iso is ok. You saw this boot option right?

Happy that it works now :bluethumb:

If you need boxes and reach your limits try the application virt-manager. It gives you more options to tweak your vm’s.

Here the link to the quick doc to start with it:

p.s. offt opic
If someone tries this doc and finds some errors, please post them here that we can bring the doc up to date. As I do use dnf5 already, I got some troubles with the group command.
example:

dnf group info virtualization #dnf5

dnf groupinfo virtualization #dnf4

As soon as dnf5 is rolled out and works on F41 I guess we have quite a lot docs to make a revision

Yeah I always flip the switch to UEFI.
Might be something weird with GNOME Boxes. I downloaded 2 more images through it and one of them was 0 again. Pretty sure I’m not out of disk space this time…

I tested also a download. The image I downloaded was F40 live iso. It not took me 5 Seconds to download. It looks like boxes stores the images in the ~/Download folder and checks if you already have an iso there. So you might search for broken Iso’s fist in this folder and delete them.
