Copy pasting text into a virtual machine

Hi beautiful people,

I would like to be able to copy paste text from Fedora to a VM Win 11 environment.
Furthermore, I am aware Spice Guest Tool exist but I would need help in installing it.
If there is another way of doing it, I am open to it.

No you must install the spice tools as its the bridge between the host and the guest systems.
The install is a normal windows install - get the install binary from here Download

Spice Guest Tool is installed, what now?

Reboot the VM and try it out.

Clipboard should work both ways (host-guest) for text and images. Drag’n’drop should work from host to guest only. However, normal file transfer is not supported by Spice. For that, you can use shared folders or USB storage passthrough.

I rebooted it and nothing happend. Tried copy pasting text and images, zero results.

What exactly did you install? Did you scroll down to the Windows binaries?

Yes, I downloaded the file from the link your cursor is in the screen shot. It’s installed in the VM.

It might not work out-of-the-box in Windows 11 as it does in Windows 10. I’m having issues myself.

Thank you for checking. Are there easier alternatives, I will use an email account draft to share text between the two.

I found something:

After I installed the virtio-win-guest-tools.exe (from fedorapeople.org) alongside the official spice-guest-tools-latest.exe (from spice-space.org) on my Win11 VM, clipboard and drag’n’drop finally behave as expected.
