AMD gpu hanging

,

I’m using fedora 44 with a Radeon RX 6900 XT. Whenever i play a game it works for a couple minutes only for my screens to go black, reappear, and then for everything to start to crash and graphical errors appearing on my screen. I don’t much about this stuff so i don’t know what to include. If someone could help that would be appreciated.

Edit: I’ve tested out older kernal versions but the problem still persisted. I believe i even had the same problem on Linux Mint.

This doesn’t happen when using the card outside of a game?

Install inxi and post the output of inxi -ezxx as pre-formatted text, using the </> button above.

It only happens when I’m playing a game but if i play a simple game like osu it doesn’t happen. When it does hang it crashes the game, my browser, discord, and plasma shell. I am also dual booting windows 10 and fedora.

I’ve had chatgpt analyse my system journal and it found this.

ring gfx_0.0.0 timeout
Process gpu-driver pid 24585
thread spring:cs0

afterwards

Starting gfx_0.0.0 ring reset
Ring gfx_0.0.0 reset failed
GPU reset begin!

and them the game itself aborted

Process 24585 (recoil-main)
terminated abnormally with signal 6/ABRT

then it started crashing other apps

21:03:07 waterfox → gfx_0.0.0 timeout
21:03:09 waterfox → compute ring timeout
21:03:24 kwin_wayland → gfx_0.1.0 timeout

and then

I have seen this when the gpu card is not making good contact with the pci slot.
You could try to remove the card use a compressed air can to clean any dust from the slot and reinstall the card.

When this happened for my card I was seeing errors reported by amdgpu driver only when playing games.

I’ve just dusted my pc and it seemed to have fixed it but the problem happened again.
