Hello,
I recently installed Fedora 41 on my computer and have encountered a network speed issue. My internet connection is now limited to 100 Mbps, whereas previously, when I was using Windows, it was 1000 Mbps. This problem only started after the installation of Fedora.
Could someone please assist me in troubleshooting or resolving this issue? Any guidance or support would be greatly appreciated.
Hey, thanks for the reply.
The connection is wired and I see that in the settings and at the terminal when entering the ethtool command(pics below), and on speed tests on the internet.
Fyi please post text as preformatted text not screen shots, use the </>.
Look at the line “advertised link modes” and see that only 100 is available.
I am guessing the is your switch is limiting the speed.
Is it 1G switch?
Is it a managed switch? Check how the port is configured.
It is worth trying a new cable and a different switch port.
Sorry, I didn’t know that. Next time, I will post as text.
Hmm, the PC connected to the router without any switch between them. Plus, before moving from Windows 11 to Fedora(until yesterday), it wasn’t a problem. I was getting 900mb~ on average.
is there any chance something on software level isn’t right?
Try booting into windows and see what the ethernet settings are.
Is it also negotiating 100M now?
Note: Your internet download speed is not the same thing as the speed negotiated with your routers switch port. But negotiation 100M is limiting your downloads.
Well, I tried to connect my Mac to the same cable and still got 100mb. After further investigating, I found out that something with my router ports isn’t(the lights of the ports are off and sometimes on). After a call with my ISP, they will send a technician to check my router
Hey, after checking the connection with my MacBook, I found out that the same cable gives me 1000mb but on my pc 100mb, long story short, I installed Ubuntu on my pc and to my surprise, I get stable 1000mb in contrast to Fedora!
The issue still bothers me, but at least my system works as it should be! Thanks for the help
