Xsane error

xsane displays this error:

Failed to open device 'hpaio:/net/OfficeJet_7500_E910?ip=192.168.63.5':
Invalid argument

This worked before the upgrade to Fedora 40. How can I find out what is missing and restore the scanner operation?

Appreciate your help.
Jyn

HP is a bit proprietary, even though the driver for the printer is opensource from the hplip package and hplip is included in the fedora distro. If you have only hplip installed, after setting up the printer with hp-setup there is an additional command hp-plugin that installs the plugin required for scanner access. (hp-setup should offer to install the plugin initially.)

You should also have the libsane-hpaio package installed.

If you have installed the hplip-gui package then there should be an icon in the activities menu to launch the management tool for hp printers and that could be used to actually setup the printer as well as having the ability to download the plugin during setup (and a discreet button to install the plugin when necessary).

hp-setup did it.
Next, I ran hp-plugin, out of curiosity, but nothing changed after it installed something.
