I have a neighbor (not sure who) who seems to think it’s great fun to impersonate my home SSID and presents an access point with the same SSID as I use. I don’t know why, perhaps they’re trying to obtain credentials break my authentication - either way, it’s an annoyance because when my laptop connects to it I lose all access both to the Internet and to my local network. I can see it’s an imposter because the station MAC address doesn’t match any of mine. It’s not even the same vendor prefix so is pretty obvious. Is there a way to either explicitly list the station MACs for my four access points, or even better blocklist this imposter station? Ideally for this SSID, it doesn’t need to be blocked if it presents a different one - I just won’t connect to it. The attacker is clearly very unsophisticated and I’m not too concerned with their toying around per se.
It’s a Dell XPS 17 9700 with an integrated (awful) Intel Killer something-or-other Wifi adapter. It doesn’t handle AP frequency changes well to begin with, and when an AP changes it sometimes connects to one in a different room with a far weaker signal and I have to toggle it off/on to reconnect to the local one (it’s probably too quick to roam is my guess). An imposter doesn’t help the situation, at all.
I realize I can change and hide my SSIDs, I’m just concerned this might screw even further with roaming (though maybe not). Either way, just blocking the imposter would be preferable.
