What's your RAM usage?

Pretty new asahi kde install, KeepassXC & Jellyfin server running.

total used free shared buff/cache available
Mem: 7.4Gi 3.3Gi 2.7Gi 569Mi 2.9Gi 4.1Gi
Swap: 23Gi 0B 23Gi

I expected it to be using about 1.5-2GB with these running, not 3.3. I’m considering seeing if there’s a difference with ubuntu-asahi

F41 X86_64 Workstation GNOME 47 with Firefox and KeePassXC open:

free -g -h
total used free shared buff/cache available
Mem: 15Gi 2.7Gi 11Gi 475Mi 2.2Gi 12Gi
Swap: 8.0Gi 0B 8.0Gi

Seems good to me!

Generally speaking, I wouldn’t worry about memory usage unless you’re actively experiencing OOMs or issues like that. Linux is very good at making use of available memory for disk caching (as otherwise unused memory is effectively wasted). See https://www.linuxatemyram.com/ and In defence of swap: common misconceptions for more information.

tried Ubuntu-asahi (tripple boot):
stock gnome 2.8G used
most of gnome removed, kubuntu-desktop install 3.2G used

Also Firefox typically uses 0.6-0.8G, brave and chromium use less!

I was about to say there’s no way, but that’s way less than I was expecting :stuck_out_tongue:

Chromium I’m kind of skeptical about though; I hear much about Chrome eating RAM and figured it’s based off most of the same code?

with a couple tabs open. With more tabs, chromium and brave eat ram exponentially. Best for me seems to be, downloading the tgz of floorp and running that

This what I get here running cinnamon, minidlna and a VM hosting buildvm-07.virt.rpmfusion.net
