I recently purchased a Bambu Lab P1S and I’ve found that the slicing software isn’t perfect. Which surprised me because of how open-source 3D printing is. I’m wondering if anyone here has an opinion on the best slicer software for use on Fedora? By best I mean, software that isn’t prone to crashing, is pre-configured for most popular printers, and has all its features working.
Here’s what I’ve tried so far and my quibbles with them. Some of my problems probably stem from my current state of ignorance in 3D printing and slicer software.
- Bambu Studio (flatpak):
- Does not play nice with system light/dark mode
- Unreadable text in important areas like dialog boxes and slice and model settings.
- Could not access the machine’s SD card remotely.
- Bambu Studio (AppImage):
- unreadable text in the unsaved changes dialog box.
- PrusaSlicer (RPM):
- No support for anything Bambu Lab
- Tried import this profile. The software failed to import it.
- Cura (RPM):
- Looks really nice but no builtin support for anything Bambu Lab. Gave up.
- Orca Slicer (AppImage):
- This was the most promising. As easy to get set up as Bambu Studio and did not have the same unreadable text issue.
- Unable to monitor machine camera. Crashes the program every time.
What software do you use for your 3D printer?
